Paris St-Germain’s Champions League Struggles Continue with Late Defeat to Atletico Madrid
Paris St-Germain’s winless streak in the Champions League extended to three games as they suffered a home defeat to Atletico Madrid. The Spanish team snatched a dramatic victory with a last-minute goal from Angel Correa in the third minute of added time, concluding an intense, closely contested match.
Young PSG midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery made history as the youngest player to start 15 games in the competition and celebrated the milestone with an early goal. His opener came in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a costly mistake by Atletico defender Clement Lenglet. Former Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele intercepted Lenglet’s lapse in concentration just inside the penalty area, setting up Zaire-Emery, who expertly chipped the ball over Jan Oblak.
Atletico quickly responded, leveling the score just four minutes later. Nahuel Molina found the back of the net with a powerful strike past Gianluigi Donnarumma after PSG’s defense failed to clear the ball.
Despite dominating possession and applying relentless pressure in the second half, PSG could not break through Atletico’s defense. Bradley Barcola and Achraf Hakimi tested Oblak with well-placed shots, but the Atletico goalkeeper held firm.
Atletico, undeterred, continued to search for a winner, and it was Correa who delivered. His low, accurate shot evaded Donnarumma, sealing Atletico’s victory.
The result leaves PSG in 25th place in the standings with four points from four games, while Atletico sit two spots above with six points. Looking ahead to match day five, PSG will travel to Germany to face Bayern Munich, while Atletico Madrid will head to Prague to play against Sparta Prague.
